A BACK-UP SOLUTION IN THE SOUTHERN SUBURBS

THE CHALLENGE

SAMD is a South African Business that has expertise in all areas of the retail and commercial fuel systems environment. They originally had a small inverter and battery system but no solar energy solution. The system they had in place was outdated and due to the increase in load-shedding as well as the age of the existing system, the solution could not cover the loads they required. They came to us looking to reduce their electricity bills and minimise the impact of load-shedding on their daily business.

THE SOLUTION

We were able to use the roof space to install solar panels and combine those with a new backup battery set up. For this design we used:

• 2 x 12 kW Three Phase Inverters.
• 18 x 555-watt solar panels
• 4 x 10.2 kW Batteries – 200AH

THE RESULT

Since the solar panels were installed SAMD has been able to use the solar power to off-set some of their daytime grid power usage and therefore save money on their Eskom bills. The same panels also charge the battery back-up so that when load-shedding kicks in the company is no longer affected and can continue without interruption.
